Locize

Locize is a localization-management and translation backend created by the i18next team, with CLI, API, CI synchronization, role-based review, versions, terminology, quality checks, and CDN/API delivery that can update translations without a full application redeploy. A small ongoing free plan is currently available.

Why use it

It fits games whose text changes through seasons, events, or Early Access: engineering keeps keys and versions in the repository, translators work in a dedicated interface, production sees language completion, and approved copy is published per environment. Missing keys, patch deltas, and review state become easier to automate than JSON handoffs, while launchers, web games, or online configuration can shorten delivery of low-risk copy fixes through the CDN.

Where it fits

Use art, animation, audio, levels, and narrative to make the game easy to read and its world convincing.

What to check

Free is limited to one user, two languages, constrained words, namespaces, and CDN downloads, and excess usage can unpublish translations rather than continue indefinitely; branches, review, terminology, private delivery, and larger teams are paid. Remote runtime text may conflict with console-store review, offline, or reproducible-build requirements, so critical copy needs bundled fallbacks and snapshots. AI or machine translation still needs contextual review, plus key, player-data, and service-term checks.
