OpenCode
OpenCode is an MIT-licensed open-source coding agent with terminal, desktop, IDE, web/server, and SDK surfaces, supporting many model providers, plan and build agents, permission policies, LSP, MCP, ACP, custom tools, and plugins.
Why use it
Fine-grained permissions, project rules, and replaceable models make it suitable for a team-owned agent workbench rather than one-off code generation. Game engineers can use one configuration for source search, implementation, formatting, tests, GitHub or GitLab work, and SDK integration into editors or asset pipelines.
Where it fits
Find engines, frameworks, code libraries, version control, and production automation.
What to check
Free tool code does not make inference free; OpenCode Zen and external APIs have separate charges and terms. Windows users are officially steered toward WSL, while shared sessions, plugins, and automatic commands can expose code or credentials, so audit policies, extension provenance, and network settings first.
