Why use it

Reproducible API traces let rendering engineers isolate intermittent driver faults, device differences, or visual regressions from a full game and hand them to teammates, hardware vendors, or CI for replay. They also create durable graphics-regression and platform-bring-up evidence without exposing an entire source tree.

Where it fits

Use testing, performance, accessibility, and diagnostic tools to remove problems players will notice.

What to check

Capture replay generally depends on similar operating systems, drivers, and extension support, and cross-platform results are not guaranteed. D3D12 is Windows-only and OpenXR remains experimental. Traces can contain proprietary shaders, resources, or player data, so never extract unlicensed assets and sanitize files before sharing.
